Rayon, also called viscose, starts as plant cellulose, usually wood pulp, which is dissolved and spun into a soft fibre. It is not a natural fibre like cotton, and it is not made from oil like polyester. It sits in between, and that process is what gives rayon its silky feel and fluid drape.
Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard, is an international standard for textiles made from organic fibres, and it checks processing and manufacture too, not only the farm.
